The optical practice, New Vision Eyewear, situated at 166 Malop Street, was moved from the first floor of the T&G Building to its current address in 1981, providing the people of Geelong and Geelong regions with eye wear since 1981. In 1989, our present owner, John Sisley, purchased the franchise. John, who had worked for the franchise company since its conception, and graduated to the role of Victorian State Manager, made the decision to purchase the business and move to Geelong. Unfortunately, the recession had just started to bite and “Pyramid” collapsed, but ever undaunted, John had faith in the Geelong community and the practice had been well managed by Colin O’Brien.
Colin and John developed the business further and trained most of the staff working in the practice today. Many of the staff have been with the business for over 19 years. We believe that by having consistency in staff you can build up relationships with your clients, thus better servicing their needs.
Changes in legislation in the early 90’s enabled Optometry and Optical Dispensing to work together, to create a “One-stop Shop” environment. This is vital to patients to have their eyes examined and spectacles or contact lenses ordered and dispensed within the same premises. Something we all take for granted today. As a consequence, the business flourished and Geelong rated in the top five of the franchise group, which consisted of 60 branches Australia wide. Early in 2001, the franchise and corporate business was sold to a large Adelaide-based optical company and then sold again to a large national optical group. At this time John’s franchise agreement was up for renewal and it was decided to leave the group and become independent. New Vision Eyewear was born! “Being independent allows us to control and conduct the business the way we want, not by someone sitting in a corporate office in Sydney,” John explained. Many Geelong residents (and others) have experienced the service that the team at new Vision provide and have helped in building up an enviable reputation for quality and value for money.
If you are an existing New Vision client this is probably old news, however, if you are not, maybe it’s time you made the right decision – with New Vision.
